We set off on a late august sunday morn to the bronx-the newly refurbished "house that ruth built"-toronto is in for a doubleheader (yes-ancient times when you could get 2 for the price of one) {let's play two today-ernie banks}
ticket booth-"young man this game has long been sold out"
(you can observe a lot by watching-yogi-i got learned his experience by observing Popa)
i laid a $20 on the counter-
"chief-i got a baseball virgin here-finally talked her into a live game"
"these folks should have been here by now" he pocketed the $20.
laid 2 tickets on the counter(his fatal mistake)-i collected.
"$40"
i peeled off another $20
and bolted
"hey you little...."
(call security-you tried to scalp $20)
next time-do not let go of the tix until you get your $40 (more)

we settled in 8 rows behind home plate...
i pointed out all the necessarys
foul pouls ("they should call them fair poles it is so much more positive")

the bleachers-the facade "mickey hit one off the top once"

1st batter up hits a goundball to short-over to first-applausa applausa goes the crowd
she elbowed me and joked-"what away" we laughed
close game-we go to the 7th-toronto leaves two on-time to stretch...
she grabs her purse and says "that was fun are you ready to go?"
"had enough?-sure i am ready to go..."
as we merged onto the major deegan she asked,"who won?"
i turned on the radio-"we should know soon"
we listened to the rest of the game on the way home.
we curled up on the couch to watch game 2
she was sound asleep by the 4th inning-
head on my chest--
my two great loves-in one short day...

In high school,i dated a girl with 3 sisters- baseball was as foreign to her as
san pedro demacoris,D.R.-
she was forced to at least try to understand the game-as i was (and remain) a "junkie"
her comprehension of early teachings was good-she had (and has) a bright mind
3 outs-4 balls and 3 strikes(so unfair-she said)-9 innings etc. etc.
her 1st question? "what is ""what away"" ?
"the announcer-he always says what away-why?"
"i have absolutely no idea what you are talking about" "what away? what?"
"yeah-listen"
next inning-leadoff hitter-"groundball to short-over to first-1 away"

((An aside-as to ground beef-if you must-buy the package ground on premise not the pre-pack
not sure-ask the butcher-it's higher in saturated fat-but much safer-believe me-i know)

i prefer chicken breast(or turkey breast-occasionally)

when it comes to food-refined is not a good thing

5-6 oz-top round or eye round(even better) or flank(marinate in lo-cal wishbone italian dressing for at least 2 hours.-center cut pork-veal cutlets.
((An aside-as to ground beef-if you must-buy the package ground on premise not the pre-pack
not sure-ask the butcher-it's higher in saturated fat-but much safer-believe me-i know)
or try the ground bison
i prefer chicken breast(or turkey breast-occasionally)

Inevitably-most weeks-people construe that whatever is near the sign is what the sign says-no need to read.
Ultimately leads to confrontation. Between cashier and customer-gets taken to manager-
manager brings to associate responsible-a vicious circle.
i've been at this for 10 years. i throwaway signs that will lead us in to temptation.(ha ha)
last week-premio sausage links-2 for$5
(flavored rope sausage-$4.99 each as always)
co worker places 2 for$5 sign above the ropes instead of below the links.
problem me thinks (no, me knows)

" if i put below they get knocked to floor and wind up in garbage"
"then just throw them away now"

"have it your own miserable way"

at brentwood-late in season-teams come out for shoot around
The brentwood team is 100% black-we have 1 black player
John Potter
i am sitting courtside and the taunts start...
"uncle tom" "oreo cookie" "honkey"
John seemed to ignore-go about his business
(tho' no teammates acknowledged nor interceded)
Game begins...taunts get louder and persistent
Crowd (all-mostly-black)gets involved
everytime John touches the ball- "Or-E-o" "Or-E-o"
Late in the game-John drives to the basket and gets annihilated
obvious flagrant foul-referee whistles and signals-2 shots
John got mad and started yelling-thats a technical ref-come on!

coach pulls John and sits him down
After the game-i am last on the bus. John is sitting alone towards the back.
i sit next to him. No words exchanged.

my first up close and personal experience with man's inhumanity to man.
He is too black to fit in with us
and too white to be accepted by them
all because of where his parents chose to live.

and i never saw him again

very very large woman-5-9 pushing 285
small son-normal sized kid-8? maybe 9?years old
plastic bag in each hand-1 holds a banana-the other an apple
standing in front of the "oscar mayer lunchables"
ever heard? nutritionist say eat the box throw the insides away-at least you'll get some fiber
mom is mad-pick out 3 boxes.
i dont like them mom-i want a dry turkey sandwich and this fruit
no! pick out 3 or that fruit is going back. he started to cry
she picked up 3 boxes-snatched the fruit out of his hands-and marched him back to the produce dept.
everyday i see them driving around in our little electric carts-to pick their pork

i was smoking a bone-a legal one-it had a name on it...
(slow day-(a rarity) at D&B's---a car pulls in-4 occupants
1 was among the most obese persons i have ever seen in this life
(talk about "shower curtains") this woman had fat on her fat
(sad-really really sad)
2 kids-the other? i think her mother.
(2 kids? from whom, what and why?)
they labored towards the door...
a few moments later-the mother returns-to retrieve a wheelchair from the trunk
daughter could not fit into our dining room chair
needed wheelchair to roll up to the table...
now? whom is sicker here...

BUDGET CUTS
As a nation we spend 8x more than the russians on military defense. We are the two most invested nations in this world in the military industrial complex. Eisenhower warned us
as he exited the white house-do not let this happen.
we will spend 24% of gdp in 2010 on our war/defense machine...
the highest total since ww2.
we need as a nation to figure out how to return to pre-911 levels.
there is little political will
in the white house
or on capitol hill
it's "we the people"
must i shout from the steeple
we must stop-defending the world-
from?

"met the ghost of caesar on the appian way-he said,"it's hard to stop this bingeing once you get a taste-but the road to empire is a bloody,stupid waste"
behold the bitten apple-the power of the tools
but all the knowledge in the world is of no use to fools-
and its a long road out of eden
