and mr jeter and his agent, casey close hold little leverage...

folks do not seem to remember-so i will remind

the texas rangers agreed to trade alex rodriguez to the boston red sox

as long as a-rod agreed to de-value his contract by some $17-18 million.

a-rod was a- ok with that.

well-the mlbpa was not- and for good legal and ethical reasons

trade denied

a-rod is not bigger than the mlbpa

(some of the later a-fraud comments-were directed at him for his thumbing his nose at the union-as much as it was the belief that he was "dirty")& ((arrogant))

he gets traded instead to the yankees for alphonso soriano and joaquin arias

and the yankees assume full contractual obligations.

the following season (popa used to say-you can look it up)

the increased attendence at home games paid the difference between the rodriguez
and soriano contracts and made the franchise a profit.

it was a business decision and it paid a handsome return.
