COMPLEX PROBLEMS

Require complex solutions. (untrue)

i once encountered a professor whom claimed-when faced with such a question

break it down to simpler components.

to espouse:

my brother asked, "how can a baseball team record 3 outs without

touching the ball?"

sey hey (willie mays)????

i was dumbfounded

Yesterday, perchance-was an article concerning the "infield fly rule"

h'mmm?

this wonderful mind (that we all possess) began to dance...

how can outs be recorded despite the fielder?

i have mentioned one. can an umpire signal another? yes

if a runner passes another

any other? no i do not think so

so

how else can an out be produced under such circumstance?

a ball batted into fair play that strikes a runner,,,

could all three happen in one circumstance?

i offer this:

Bases loaded- no one out. the batter lifts a high fly behind 2nd base.

the runner on 1st-(from his angle) believes the ball will fall in and runs full steam toward 2nd

the runner on 2nd from a secondary lead is half way towards 3rd but retrieves

because he believes the ball will be caught.

the umpire signals "infield fly" (batter out)

the runner at first passes the runner at 2nd (umpire signals-runner out)

the shortstop and second baseman play alphonse and gaston and back-off

the ball englishes after hitting the ground backwards and strikes the runner at 2nd before he can return to the base.

3 outs

and no one touched the ball.

PS: well, except the pitcher

whom delivered

to set this all in motion
